When You Need To Get Your Own Sleep

Do You Need a Good Night's Sleep?

Getting up in the middle of the night to take care of your loved one can be exhausting, especially if they require care several times during the night.

Your sleep is crucial to your health and your happiness. You need to take care of yourself so that you can take care of them.

If you go to work all day, or if you stay at home and care for your loved one all day long, then getting an unbroken night’s sleep will make the world of difference to how you feel and function.

The Benefits of Overnight Care

Elders often have falls during the night as they cannot see properly, they may be disoriented, and there may be trip hazards in the home.

If an Elder has a fall, it can lead to a hospitalisation that subsequently requires months of therapy. Falls often occur on the way to the toilet in the middle of the night.

During our free consultation, the Registered Nurse will assess your loved one for the risk of a fall and also for trip hazards in the home. She will recommend practical solutions to minimise the risk of a fall at night such as safety rails and precautions such as an optometry review of the client’s eyesight. If they have already had a fall, they will benefit greatly from this free service by avoiding a subsequent fall.

  • Needs basic medication such as pain relief.
  • Needs to be put back to bed because they are disoriented or confused.
  • Tends to wake you because they require settling and more re-settling to get back to sleep.
  • Needs comfort during the night such as a quick reassuring chat, a cup of tea or warm glass of milk to calm feelings of anxiety.

Our Caregiver will sleep from 10 pm to 6 am and will get up to assist your loved one once per night. If more care is required, then Active Care will be the more appropriate choice.
